What is Tanakh? Christian versions use “Old Testament” (OT). Tanakh (Tanach, Tenach, Tenakh or Tenak or Tench) is an acronym. An acronym: T N K (T N C). Tanakh, an acronym derived from the names of the three divisions of the Hebrew Bible. The 24 Books of the Hebrew Bible.

The Hebrew Bible is split into three main sections:

T N KH (Kh)or T N K or T N C or T N CH (Ch) is the key of an acronym in order.

T: for Torah
N: for Nevi’im
Kh or Ch: for Ketuvim

T: Torah

Torah (first five books) means Instruction, or Law, also called the Pentateuch). The first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The First Five (5) Books of Moses (Chumash)

N: Nevi’im

Nevilim (Nevi’im) means Prophets. This literally is the second major norm (“two groups”) division of the Hebrew Bible. The Eight (8) Books of the Prophets (Neviim).

a. Former (Early) Prophets: Hebrew Word נביאים ראשונים‎ Nevi’im Rishonim) consists of the narrative books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings.

    • Yehoshua (Joshua) – written by Yehoshua
    • Shoftim (Judges) – written by the Shoftim
    • Shmu’el (Samuel) – written by Shmu’el

Latter Prophets, also, consisting of Twelve Minor Prophets together: Hebrew Word נביאים אחרונים‎ Nevi’im Akharonim) include the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and the Twelve (or Minor) Prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Nevi’im acharonim – Latter Prophets literally The Three Major Latter Prophets and Trei Asar.

The Latter Prophets may also be divided into the three major prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel) and “The Twelve” (Trei Asar) so-called minor prophets.

c. Twelve Minor Prophet (The Minor Prophets or Twelve Prophets) Aramaic Word: תרי עשר‎, Trei Asar, “Twelve”). Trei Asar (Twelve Minor Prophets) literally is the latter part of Nevi’im, the second section of the Tanakh, consisting of the books of Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi.

Nevi’im: The above a, b, and c combine very harmony together literally are the Eight (8) Books of the Prophets (Nevi’im).


KH (Kh, CH, Ch): Ketuvim


Ketuvim means the Writing or the Hagiographa or the Sacred Writings.

Psalms, Proverbs, and Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls (Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther), Prophecy (Daniel), and history (Ezra, Nehemiah, and I and II Chronicles).

The Megillot are plural. The Megillah is singular. The order of the five Megillot, or Scrolls combine of Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, and Esther.
