Comforter

Beautiful Picture of Stained Glass in the Church of Antibes, France, depicting a Dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit

First I want to share only focus word: “comfort” regarding Jesus (Yeshua) is my Comforter through Holy Spirit (Ruach haKodesh).

YHWH-Nacham (The LORD our Comforter) “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort.”

Latin paracletus

Greek Paracletos, one called alongside to help. Here is G3875 – paraklētos

We read all versions: Comforter (Helper, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby). Deep spiritual transformation life in Messiah/Christ means to call to or for, to exhort, to encourage.

I love it! Amen! 💜🤟🙏🕊️💜

Please read John 14 (click on both USCCB and Amplified Bible)

John 14:26

USCCB

Amplified Bible

26But the [d]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.

[d] [d] 26 Gr Paracletos, one called alongside to help.

The Latin Vulgate New Testament Bible on John 14:26:

26paracletus autem Spiritus Sanctus quem mittet Pater in nomine meo ille vos docebit omnia et suggeret vobis omnia quaecumque dixero vobis

But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you.

Interesting I study centering the Gospel of St. John who is the author and notice Latin word Paraclete (παράκλητος) appears four times in the Gospel (Good News) and appears one time in the Book of 1 John total five (5) times according the scripture verses:

John 14:16, John 14:26; John 15:26; John 16:7 and once in 1 John 2:1 to Yeshua Messiah (Jesus Christ).

Latin word: paracletus, paracleti [m.] O Noun means helper, comforter, defender, protector, advocate

Interesting I have TDNT book: J. Behm (TDNT) states that the rabbis have parákletos as a loan word and use it for advocate before God. Check with Thayer’s Greek Lexicon when you click on G3875 – paraklētos.

Research finding more information In the Talmud and Targums:

Among Jewish writers the word “Paraclete” came to have a number of meanings. A good deed was called a paraclete or advocate, and a transgression was an accuser. Repentance and good works were called paracletes: “The works of benevolence and mercy done by the people of Israel in this world become agents of peace and intercessors (paracletes) between them and their Father in heaven.” The sin offering is a paraclete; the paraclete created by each good deed is called an angel (Jewish Encyclopedia, IX, 514-15, article “Paraclete”).

Aramaic excellent article Comforter “Paraqleta”

Latin paracletus (comforter). The term paracletus is the Latinised form of the Greek word παράκλητος (parákletos), meaning comforter. It is another name for the Holy Spirit.

Comforter:  Greek – paracleton: Counselor, advocate, helper, comforter, guide. Literally from para for alongside of and cleton to summon or call. Comforter: Aramaic – paraqleta: Comforter, one who saves or encourages.  Literally from  prag for  to save.

USCCB have excellent elaborately footnote verse 16.

John 14:15-21 USCCB The Advocate.

15“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.j

16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate* to be with you always,k 💜💜💜💜🤟🤟🤟🤟🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️

17the Spirit of truth,* which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you.l

18I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.*

19In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live.m

20On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.n

21Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”o

Footnote:

* [14:16] Another Advocate: Jesus is the first advocate (paraclete); see 1 Jn 2:1, where Jesus is an advocate in the sense of intercessor in heaven. The Greek term derives from legal terminology for an advocate or defense attorney, and can mean spokesman, mediator, intercessor, comforter, consoler, although no one of these terms encompasses the meaning in John. The Paraclete in John is a teacher, a witness to Jesus, and a prosecutor of the world, who represents the continued presence on earth of the Jesus who has returned to the Father.
